Rook's K8 BO busa
10/21/12 3:00 AM

I bought the busa back in 09. About the very last BO 08 to be found. The stealer had to drive a truck to Minneapolis to get her.

All stock

Coexisted happily with the 14 for 3 years now.

Only thing I did was put black out lenses on the tail. Much improved, don't you think?
before

after

SO, I bought all these mods for the busa years ago and just now do I have the motivation to install them. Must say, I am really liking the busa a lot more now.

Removed PAIR installed block off plates

Have a T-rex kickstand installed n but sorry no pic right now.
Removed mirrors and put on mirror caps.

Put this little baby together

OEM header

Left muffler

right muffler

Tsukigi Cannon full system

47 lbs v 14 lbs.

Rather interesting taper to the headpipes, I'd say.

Here's a naked shot.

...and the infamous gaping exit hole.

Here we got the busa USBed out the kitchen window.

View from inside. Loading the map I got from High Performance Cycles (now defunct).

that Z-Fi sure is a work of art in itself.

More pics when I get her all dressed up.

and don't think I forgot about the 14. I've talking a lot but you guys have not seen the pics yet. Just wait.

Intersting how quiet this system is on the busa compared to the 14. The 14's Cannon is a lot more a straight pipe since there is no fairing to interfere with the path. However, thois also makes it more prone to scraping when I corner reaaly hard (lower air pressure also might have something to do with that too). The busa's CANNON curves under it more than emerges below the heel. Seems like cornering clearence will be greater with the busa but flow is impeded. That might be why the busa's headpipes look to be a more complex design than the 14's.

Nice pipe but do not ceramic coat it this time, looks much better stock. You should be able to feel a 33 lb difference!

Kolfa, The busa pipe looks good Au Natural on the B/O busa. The 14, I agree, always thought it looked better. Just wait until I get the new rims on the 14. We'll start a new thread and you'll see what a work of art it is. LAst mod end of story: NOS. Big ol blue bottle on the left where the passenger peg was. Prolly chop away the stock seat and create a compartment to stash another bottle or two under the cowl. Next year. The year of BOOST!!!

Kruz. The CANNON Seems to have loudened up already after running a total of 15 minutes. Think she will have a viscious growl just like the 14 by the next time you visit for Oshkosh.

I hate to admit this but I get a real sense of satisfaction out of seeing pedestrians jump 10 inches in the air at the crosswalk. Just saw a small child start to cry last week. heheheheheh!

Sweet pipe. Looks like header has a expansion chambers like you would see on a 2 stroke. Any word on what kind of gains you can expect ?

Gorgeous pipe, rear lights and bike Rook. How do the pipes perform compared to stock on the
Busa?

I am really getting anxious to try it.. Since she was all stripped down i thought I might as well take the opportunity to install the SS brake and clutch lines. As long as I can get the brake juice flowing w/out a prob, I wiull be able to test her out within a couple days.

HPC did it's own test comparo with 08 busa's equipped with A-head, and Tsukigi. They would not publicize the result against the A-head. That was Brock's best performing system at the time. They showed the dyno runs against the Short meg instead and the Tsukigi beat it. I don't recall the numbers. The important thing to me was that they were (in not so many words)saying the A-head was inferior to the CANNON on the GenII busa. ....can't beat Brock for weight loss though...OMG that A-head is 8 lbs, total????

The CAnnon is not as light as some of the systems out there but it looks great and sounds beautiful + I got mine for $600, brand new.

That's right, Romes. 600 bones + welding and bung (which I think they put in the wrong place ...was outsource work done for the pipe seller...have to fix that myself now). That was from Hyperbike Performance Center run by Greg Williams out of Baltimore, Maryland. Greg Williams was a big ZX-14 proponent and LSR racer. His shop was dedicated to ONLY hyperbikes. ZX-14 and busa were all he did. It really is a shame that he had to close up shop. Hope he will return some day. He actually would make videos for people who asked questions on his forum. It was a great resource....woulda been, he closed shortly after I started getting into wrenching and that is why the Cannons were going so cheap, I'm sure.

So...Here's the SS lines I put on. Saves a little weight and looks sexy when the big girl is nekked. I don't think it does a wwhole lot for braking power all by itself. The busa prolly needs a whole new package to bew anything like the 14. Bleeding the busa brake for th efirst time, I was not sure if I had air in the system or what. The lever could squeeze to the hand grip with some effort. Sure enough, the brake was bled. It's just a lot softer than the 14's. My 14 brake won't come close to a full squeeze.

Here we have our hot new yellow Galfer SS braided lines.

That connector with the blue tape on it? It was my horn switch. Now is my NOS power source when the time comes or turbo if I have the money

I'll get some pics of the new pipe with fairings tomorrow. i went for a ride and had the front slip on me in a low speed corner. I don't know what it was, cold tires, cold pavement, a little extra torque pushing the bike forward (it was not high rpm)--maybe it was the suspension now that the bike lost over 30 pounds of exhaust??. Whatever it was, it scared the crap out of me. I took my foot off the peg and felt it touch the road. Hope nobody was behind me to see that(mirrors removed). So I was a little shook up not being used to riding the busa. I didn't dare open it in 1. Second gear pretty close to WOT. It is a lot like the 14 now (once again) so I like it. No wheelies. Maybe tomorrow?? Never wheelied the busa.

Next up, mirror caps ands bar end mirrors.

Sato rearsets after that.

have a BMC filter but this time of year...IDK?? lots of dust and crap. I am a believer in a race filter now. Have the 14's in. It does add a measure of zing in the top revs. Just don't know if its so great to have it in all the time.

Here is the T-rex sidestand I mentioned earlier. Half the weight of the OEM sidestand.

I took the OEM mirrors off and put on mirror blocks.

Got my bar end weights off today and I replaced them with a single bare end mirror. I attached the mirror bracket adapter to the other side without attaching the mirror.. I like the look of that and it's a little lighter but I think I will be attaching the other mirror before long. I keep looking down to my right and have no rear view. LOL

The mirror/bar end mods amounted to a net weight loss of over 2 and a quarter pounds.

Sweet ass on that busa, lemme tell ya.

And had the front wheel up twice today. Once on accident. FUll tank of gas. I'm a bit surprised because it wheelies as easy or perhaps easier than the 14 and it still has stock gearing (which I think is a bit shorter than stock ZX-14 gearing..... I'm impressed. When 5k rolls up, hang on to your butt! I wonder if this is flies open time??? I may have to remove the flies. Most people don't pull flies on a busa but that is what I am used to.

Still feels a lot heavier than the 14. ?? and I still have weight loss mods to do on the 14. A Shorai in the busa and that will be about all I can do other than buy lightweight wheels for the busa.

Enough talk aboiut business. Have you ever seen a sweeter ass?

The leaner and meaner counterpart waits in the shadows.

Satos go on next. That's a bit of a project. I have to get vid of the twin brothers to show comparo. Took some on the busa today. See if I can get that online soon.

Bazzaz Z-AFM goes in over the winter. Keyless gas cap. levers. Brake upgrades if i can swing it. Have to get a lightweight battery some day but the old stocker is till kicking. Th ebike hasn't been startted too many times considering it is 4 years old.

hey Rook, I kinda of wish you did something different on the Busa exhaust wise. I was looking for a thread on bikeland to show you the best looking busa I have seen IMHO. I saw the ZRX (06blue thread) and thought the colors of that bike were awesome then I looked for the Busa on bikeland but couldn't find it until today. The Yosh pipes on that bike are sweet! Colors match the bike to a T and I think I remember seeing Ohlins suspension on that puppy. All I would need bike wise is Dogo 14, that Busa and a S 1000RR. lol

check it out

Thanks, ZX14MAN.

BAD news.

busa rolled off sidestand in driveway.

can I just say.....

FUCkIN FUCKITY FUCK-FUCK-FUCK!

?

Thank you.

Yep, brand new Sato is a litrtle scuffed up...prolly just polish down the delrin...the metal is unscratched.

stator cover undented I think but scraped paint.

Side fairing scraped right through to the plastic

Upper fairing minor edge scratch

No damage at all to the fork bottom brake or fender.

All in all. Not too bad.

Bar end mirror and bung busted.

Clutch lever busted and bent....hope the perch is not bent.

Never saw a thing. kick stand not swung forward all the way is all I can guess. Had my back turned, ten feet away. Heard crunch, turned and there she was on the ground.

so more work.

I'm spending more time with these bikes in the garage than on the road. No joke, this is sad.
